A new 60 room, 120 bed hospital has started construction on Roatan. Located in Brick Bay between Coxen Hole and French Harbor, about 12 minutes from Roatan Village Resort, this modern facility is just what Roatan needs.
The construction was made possible by a $7 million donation from the Japanese government, through their developing country aid fund.
28 acres of land was purchased from a local island family for the building and future expansion. There is also an option to purchase an adjacent 20 acres if needed, but that is not part of the current plan.

The hospital will include office space for lease for specialists and private practices, a full service emergency room, 60 rooms with 120 beds, and will be built to North American standards and furnished with state of the art equipment.
The new access road to the parcel is cut in between Roatan Equipment Rental and Vegas Electric, close to the new Carnival Cruise Lines port. The site is leveled and ground breaking is imminent.
Airlines Adding Flights to Roatan in Face of World Wide Cuts
While the airline industry struggles to cut capacity in the face of decreasing passenger demand, destinations like Roatan are still seeing increases. During 2009 we have seen or expect to see:
A new weekly direct flight from Madrid, Spain, beginning in April, will be in addition to the existing Milan flight. There are also talks in process for a Paris flight.
New weekly Toronto flight has been extended through August.
Spirit, which already flies to San Pedro on the mainland, is evaluating direct flights to Roatan.
American is planning direct flights to Roatan from Miami and Dallas once the hospital is completed.
Continental is flying to Roatan direct four times a week on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
